Zosia Sherwood graduated from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation program in the Spring of 2021. When amid the pandemic, Zosia was hanging out with her roommates. They were talking about concerts and festivals. She realized how much she missed them and wanted that connection again. In class, Zosia’s Entrepreneurship professor, Meg Weber, talked about creating and doing an impactful project. That was the moment Zosia knew she had to do something for the community and herself and her journey through launching Sherwood Music Festival began.

Zosia’s idea of a COVID safe musical festival started in the Spring of 2020. Many people were apprehensive of the idea at first but Zosia knew she was going to follow through with it, no matter what. There were many ups and downs, challenges, and roadblocks along the way. Not to mention the evolving and changing COVID regulations. “It was the most emotional thing I’ve ever gone through.”

Sherwood Musical Festival was a COVID safe festival with the core purpose of bringing local musicians and artists together within the Bellingham community. On June 12, 2021, it was held and raised over $5,000 for a local non-profit called DVSAS that benefits women and families exiting domestic violence https://www.dvsas.org/. Zosia was surprised and delighted by how supportive the Bellingham community was. She mentioned that many people in the community reached out to her to help. All of the volunteers, musicians, and artists donated their time and energy to this festival.

Throughout this process, Zosia said “I figured out how to lead better. I found my voice and my decision-making process changed.” She discussed how she couldn’t have done it without the help of her support system.

After this Zosia plans on working at Flynn Farms for the summer. Check out the Sherwood Music Festival Instagram page @sherwood.music.festival for highlights and updates.
