Almost every week in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation program we get the opportunity and pleasure to have guest speakers join our virtual classroom. This week Parchelle Tashi came in to speak. Parchelle was a high school math teacher and now is a successful entrepreneur as a video producer. She mentioned that like most people who pursue entrepreneurship she wanted a flexible schedule and freedom to explore her passion for videography.

As Parchelle would say “The entrepreneurship bug bit me”.

Parchelle talked about 5 points on how to be an entrepreneur.

  1. Learn more about YOU
  • What do you really want?
  • What is your superpower? (what are you amazing at?)

2. Identify your walls

  • Limiting beliefs
  • Fears

3. Connect with your self-worth

  • Are you confident?
  • What do you charge? (for your product or service)

4. Speak up!

  • You can say no
  • Boundaries & expectations

5. Build Wealth (wealth meaning what is left over when all the money is gone)

  • Create the life you want
  • Give yourself a raise

As college students and entrepreneurs we tend to undervalue ourselves. We often do things for free or charge very little because we don’t know our value. This is something I have been struggling with recently and I know a lot of my peers are as well.

Parchelle talked about the importance of asking powerful questions during sales calls with potential clients.

  1. What is your budget for XYZ?
  2. What business challenge is this product or service solving?

This discussion inspired and motivated me to first figure out what my superpowers are and second, to set boundaries and know when to say ‘no’. Finally, it allowed me to realize my self-worth and not undersell myself as an entrepreneur.
